Communism - PhilWikiWiki

Karl Marx was a 19th century political activist and philosopher. He also was known as the "father of communism." He believed that alienations is the main characteristic in the class society and the only social evolution was communism. Marx wanted to put an end to capitalism system as he felt that it was exploitating the workers. He was convinced that communism allowed people to have control of what they wanted and not at the expense of being exploited. Moreover, Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote "The Communist Manifesto" which was published on February 21, 1848. The manifesto propose a revolution to abandon capitalism and adopt a socialist system.

Some of The Manifesto famous lines are:
"The Communists disdain to conceal their views and aims. They openly declare that their ends can be attained only by the forcible overthrow of all existing social conditions. Let the ruling classes tremble at a communist revolution."

The first famous event to overthrow capitalism and enforce a communism system was the October revolution of 1917 in Russia led by Vladimir Lenin, the leader of Bolshevik Party.

In the beginning of 1917, Russia was under the ruling Provisional Government party led by Alexander Kerensky and Russia was at war with other countries. However, there were a lot of people discontented with the war as it suffered heavy military losses and the soldiers were demoralized and decided to join the radical groups. In addition, the Kornilov affair weakens Kerensky's control over the country and even aided the truimph of the Bolsheviks.

On October 25 1917, Lenin led the forces to Saint Petersburg to overthrow the Kerensky Governement and they faced little resistance.
