PersonhoodThis is a featured page

Full Personhood assessment, so to speak.

One of the key issues in the abortion debate, maternal-fetal conflicts, and the animal rights debate is what does it mean to be a person and what rights the concept should entail. This has considerable repercussions for deciding the moral status of a fetus, as we tend to see persons as having full moral status compared to a number of competing entities. If anyone with human DNA can be considered biologically human but not all humans are competent (some are children, some are mentally retarded, some are comatose, etc.) and not all humans are considered morally worthy (some are convicted felons, some are liars and cheats, etc.). Plus, we now have genetically engineered pigs with human DNA and, thus, the mere possession of some human DNA may not mean the human is a person.
