We want happiness in a certain way and at a certain time, and that is the truth for most people. To most those two scenerios dont look the same. There is something about gaining something that is considered good over time forwards, that having it and letting it go. There are different scenerios that can change ones decision but for me thats why i would pick it because your life usually starts at 0 and goes to whenever.. adding in age and happiness is the best possible scenerio for me

In all honesty, I would prefer life B over A. My reasoning for choosing this life is because of many different reasons. One is because that life seems more ideal even though both life A and B have the same amount of happiness. I would rather have an unhappy beginning and work my way up to the happiness because I personally feel that if my life is that way then my appreciation for happiness will be much greater than if I was just happy from the start. But my decision depends on where life starts on the graph. In class the Professor used the example of life starting at age 18. If that was the case then I would choose life A but since I don’t know where the happiness starts I will stay with life B. another reason why I would choose life B is because right now at this moment in my real life I am experiencing life A and I feel that it would suck to have all the happiness and joy one moment then watch it slowly slip away and all you have is memories and not so much happiness anymore because that lost can be a little depressing. Life A has happiness handed to them and it was an easy thing but to slowly lose it is not such a good feeling because happiness is all life A knows and trying to adjust to the different life may not be as easy as it might be for life B. they start off in a very unhappy state of mind and in life but the transition from unhappy to the highest point of happiness in their lives may be much easier in my opinion. This whole decision varies for each individual and what happiness means to the individual choosing the life they prefer. To me happiness is anything that makes you smile and gives you a good feeling inside your mind, body and soul and I would like to end life happy and look back and appreciate the unhappy place I came from in the earlier chapters in my life. But that’s me personally.

If I had to step into the “Experience Machine” and make a choice I think I would have to go with life A. Life A would take me from the least happy to the happiest. I have many reasons why I would pick life A. With life A you always have something to look forward to. I think if I were at my happiest in the beginning stages of life I would not have many memories of my happiness and as I grew older I would appreciate my life more. I would like my happiest times in life to be as I get older so I can enjoy them with my daughter. I would not want her to see me on a down word slop as time went on and think that is the way life should be. I would like her to experience the joy with her mother and remember me as a happy person. I would like to grow old and be happy with my husband and family. I believe that family is what really makes you happy. |
