Sir Isaac Newton: Expert On Change

Although the term 'change' has been overused in political marketing, there is no denying that we are at the crux of a moment of great foment. I find my mind reeling when considering the implications of either an Obama or McCain victory, though in very different directions. Isaac Newton knew a lot about change, maybe he can shed some light on the moment. Newton's 1st and 3rd Laws Of Motion are clear, well confirmed and may tell us something interesting about the change upon us. I will remain neutral on the surface, but my choice and placement of clips below suggests a certain preference! Feel free to comment at the bottom of the page.

Newtons's 1st Law Of Motion:
"A body maintains its state of rest or of motion unless it is disturbed by external force"

Newton's 3rd Law Of Motion:
"For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."

Having been a Navy wife for 10 years, and having being around over 40, Senator McCain in my opinion, would have been more prepared. President Elect Obama joins himself in the rank of the President Kennedy, if you look at the documentary, "1000 Days of a Presidency" you will see that having a President without experience can be deadly. The only reason we did not go to war with Russia, was Russia called our bluff. They have just released tapes of President Kennedy speaking to his brother Bobby Kennedy stating they needed to pray. I would feel more comfortable with a President who could do more than pray.

Don't get me wrong, President Kennedy was the begininng of a new type of Presidency. I do have admiration for him. But experience does count, and now days, we need someone who knows the ropes. The politics aren't new, and I think the President Elect will find he can't live up to the promises he made, no one can.

I had been a registered Republican in the past, but I voted for Obama this time. Compared to McCain, Obama is much less experienced, especially in foreign affairs. And vice-president-elet Biden was right-on-target when he said something like this: "Mark my words, the world will test him (Obama) with a major crisis soon after he takes the presidential office." Under other circumstances, I would have voted for McCain in a heart beat! But given our current circumstances, I believe that Obama is what the country needs in the next four years. I did not make my decision lightly. I was ill at ease with Obama at the beginning, and considered him more like a Hollywood celebrity than a real politician. But after listening to several of his major speeches and reading them afterwards in paper, I thought that Obama's message had been, for the most part, consistent. I understand Obama's message to be about hope, family, working hard, and service to the community. After watching and listening to Obama in debates, rallies, interviews, I became convinced that he is very, very, very intelligent, has integrity, has superb leadership abilities, and is sincere about what he thinks he can do. Obama really thinks that he can change ("save") the world! He truly believes that! He is not a hyprocrite. I feel with my heart (as opposed to think with my head) that Obama's enthusiasm, new blood, new energy, and yes, HOPE, is what America needs at this time in history! Dalia L.

Well, the people have spoken and have spoken loudly. Apparently the majority of the American people are tired of a bad economy and have elected the person whom which they believe can (and will, hopefully!) bring us out of this recession. Being an Obama supporter myself, of course I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Obama's tax plan seems to really make sense; not because it gives me a tax break (since I definetely do not earn anywhere near 250,000 dollars a year), but it makes sense because it ISN'T the same economics plan that we've had for the last 8 years. I once saw on a good friends refrigerator magnet: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". I feel this statement is most accurate about our economic situation. Hopefully Obama can bring us out of this infinite downward spiral. As for McCain, he was really close to earning my vote, especially after the primaries. I really liked the idea of a liberally prone conservative- maybe because it would be the closest thing that we could ever get to a bi-partisan ticket. The clincher for me was his vice-pres. pick - Palin. After the interviews, the debate and the endless supply of her catch phrases, winks and frequent use of the work "Maverick", it became apparent to me that this is a politician who knows a lot about Alaska, but not much about anything else. Just the fact that she didn't know that Africa is a continent, or what the acroynym NAFTA stands for (let alone what countries North America consists of), it simply frightenened me to think that she could potentially be second-in-command of the most powerful nation on the face of this planet. The American people saw the ignorance in this one, and it is for this reason along with Obama's outstanding campaign why red states turned blue, and secured a landslide victory for Obama. My biggest hope at this point is that Obama can live up to his expectations.
